3rd Baltic Conference on HLT 2007 will take place on October 4-5 in Kaunas, Lithuania.
The conference is the successor of two other Baltic conferences on HLT held in Riga (2004) and Tallin (2005).
Kaunas lies almost in the centre of the country, at the confluence of the rivers Nemunas and Neris, only 100 kilometres from the capital Vilnius.
Kaunas is the second largest city of Lithuania, with the population of over 430,000. Kaunas has seen many ups and downs, but has stayed a source of forces for resistance, a guard of national identity, and has once actually been a temporal capital of Lithuania.
The centre of Kaunas is split into the Old and New Town. The Old Town is a concentration of the most important architectural monuments, such as the 13th century castle and the Town Hall, and the Vilnius street, a characteristic trade city of the Middle Ages. Kaunas is known for Čiurlionis Art Gallery, where a unique collection of masterpieces of the most famous Lithuanian painter and composer is exhibited.
M. Žilinskas Art Gallery displays a large variety of Western masterpieces of the latest centuries. The Museum of Devils is the unique museum of its kind.
The New Town is centered around the Heart of Kaunas Liberty Avenue (Laisvės alėja), a place for offices, a promenade street, a stage for street performers.
This large pedestrian street hosts various cafes and restaurants, where one can have a cup of coffee or tasty dinner.
